Big and Little Glen Lake - Print
This artwork is of Big and Little Glen Lake, from one of the scenic overlooks along Pierce Stocking Scenic Drive in Empire, Michigan. There are many hidden gems connecting it to the Leelanau area due to cutting and tearing bits of a local newspaper - the Glen Arbor Sun.
P.S. Michigan is known for its cherries. Can you spot the cherry trees?
Pierce Stocking was a Michigan lumberman and, in the early 1960s, began building the scenic road, then known as Sleeping Bear Dunes Park. He loved the woods and spent most of his spare time there, developing a self-taught knowledge of nature. He used to walk the bluffs above Lake Michigan, awing at the view of the dunes, captivated by the shades of blue water and the surrounding islands. Stocking wanted to share the beauty with others and conceived the idea of building a road to the top of the dunes, which now allows us to see these iconic views.
